Why Should a Child Go To The Chiropractor?

"Why would I take my child to a chiropractor? His back doesn't hurt. "
-Many parents see the importance of taking their children in for check-ups of their child's teeth, hearing, eyes, ears, nose, and throat but never considered the importance of a check-up of their children's spine.

A spinal check up may be one of the most important things you can do for your child. Why? The birth process alone puts tremendous stress on the newborn spine that could lead to many health problems. The normal jumping, falling, running, bumping, flipping of childhood can cause vertebral subluxations, with serious health consequences if uncorrected. With a healthy spine, a child's body can better deal with sore throats, ear infections, stomach aches, fevers, and the many other problems that can be present during childhood.

Emotionally Healthy Children:

Doctors and parents have observed often dramatic improvements in the physical, emotional, and neurological health of children following chiropractic care. This includes children with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, concentration problems, dyslexia, discipline problems, low IQ, and low grades.

Ear Infections:

In many cases ear infections are observed to disappear after spinal adjustments, saving children from antibiotics and ear-tube surgery. There are many problems with antibiotic use in children including but not limited to allergic reactions, GI upset, antibiotic resistance and destruction of the guts intestinal flora leading to yeast proliferation. Tubes often do not create lasting cures with infections commonly returning within two months and the tubes can affect hearing loss later.

*Keeping your child's spine free from vertebral subluxation will boost their natural defenses against disease.

If your child has any of these conditions make sure his or her spine is healthy:

•Colic
•Croup
•Learning Disorders
•Poor posture

Why Should You See A Chiropractor During Pregnancy?

In my office I see pregnant woman every day. Inevitably I hear them say that they don't know what they'd do without being able to come in and see me. Fortunately they either had chiropractic care previously and know the amazing benefits from being seen during pregnancy or they were referred by their OB/GYN, Midwife, Primary Care doctor,  doula, massage therapist, or other health care provider. Because of their personal experience they don't question the benefit of chiropractic care, or because they trust the practitioner who referred them they feel they will be greatly taken care of. The patients who have never been to a chiropractor, had been to a rough chiropractor and/or those who were not referred to my office, however can be very nervous and question the benefits that they may receive by coming in for prenatal chiropractic care.

Women who are experiencing sciatica, low back pain, pelvic pain, headaches/migraines, and abdominal tightness are among the most common  women new to chiropractic care who are hoping for relief and have heard that chiropractic, (whatever that may be), could help them decrease or even get rid of their pain and discomfort. Thank goodness for those who shared their knowledge of prenatal chiropractic care  with these women because they have usually been experiencing moderate to severe pain for some time before looking for alternatives. Although these women are nervous and have many questions about what it is exactly that we do, and if chiropractic care is safe during pregnancy, during our consultation process they immediately feel comfortable, safe, and cared for. Very quickly most moms feel significant improvement, if not complete resolution of their pain and discomfort. And our moms feel extremely happy that the care they have had to relieve their pain is natural and very safe. Safer than Tylenol, with positive side effects including relief of pain, increased energy, relaxation, improved posture, and much more, chiropractic care should be an important part of your prenatal care team! Don't forget that increasing the ability of your nervous system to work better and your immune system to be more efficient, your baby is gaining an advantage in health immediately. Babies are seen as soon after birth as you feel comfortable to be checked for any trauma during pregnancy or birth. If your child is experiencing recurrent ear infections, colic, acid reflux, asthma, or other common childhood illnesses- boosting their immune system, releasing pressure from the eustachian tube (for ear infections), and taking away any interference to the nervous system to help your child's entire system function optimally is the best gift that you can give your baby.

For those women who are experiencing pain during pregnancy, nausea, discomfort, or other problems and have never heard of or considered chiropractic care to help them during this time, I'm here to tell you that you have options, there are alternatives and they are safe and natural. There are conditions during pregnancy that can be debilitating or simply annoying and can be addressed and treated naturally by chiropractic care. Our consultations are always free so that you can find out your options, have your questions answered and have time to make an informed decision in your prenatal care. If you are wondering if prenatal chiropractic care could help you, just call and set up a 30 minute consultation with Dr. Ashley Waggoner, D.C., there is no pressure to become a patient, however you are always welcome to become part of our family!
