Yeast Infections (Candida) and What You Can Do About Them!
What is Candida?
Candida is a highly adaptable fungus that causes oral thrush, athlete's foot, vaginal yeast infections, and systemic candidiasis. Small numbers of candida are found in the intestinal flora of healthy men and women of all ages. Fungal overgrowths that lead to unpleasant symptoms are caused by a combination of cumulative factors, including poor diet, stress, prescription medications, and chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes. Candida albicans is the most common form of yeast that causes related medical conditions. The effects of chronic and systemic candidiasis are not fully understood, however, infections have been linked to fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, ADD, and many other conditions.
Candida organisms releasemore than 70 known toxins that accumulate in the joints, spinalfluid, and soft tissue.
Since the mid 1990s, researchers at Stanford University, MIT, and Harvard have been mapping genomes of the common Candida albicans fungus. Decades of innovative DNA research have changed the way scientists view and treat candida. To evolve and thrive, the fungus is constantly mutating its gene sequences. Candida is capable of spontaneously rearranging data, deleting gene patterns, and changing chromosomal repeats similar to the way computers rapidly handle and exchange data packets.
· gastrointestinal distress
· headaches and dizziness
· hypoglycemia
· infertility
· inflamed prostate
· learning difficulties
· lupus
· memory loss
· multiple sclerosis
· mood swings
· PMS and breast tenderness
· skin rashes and chemical sensitivity
· sore throat and coughing
Causes of Candida
Candida and chronic cadidiasis are caused by the excessive overgrowth of a natural and generally harmless fungus that inhabits the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and genital region. Candida is a commensal fungus that inhabits the surface of the skin along with many beneficial organisms. Commensal organisms like candida are parasitic, which means the fungus lives and feeds, causing harm to the host. When the healthy bacterial balance is thrown off, the opportunistic candida takes advantage of the situation causing a fungal overgrowth.
When candida gains a foothold in this manner, it dominates the intestinal microflora and prevents beneficial organisms from reestablishing themselves. If left unchecked, candida infections can become systemic and enter the bloodstream.
Severe candida overgrowth causes the fungus to penetrate the membranes of the intestinal lining where it compromises organ function. By moving through the membrane, the candida creates microscope pores in the intestines that can contribute to leaky gut syndrome and other conditions. Most cases of candida are caused by C. albicans, however, infections with C. glabrata are gaining prevalence due to the species' vigor and resistance to antifungal medications. Causes of Candida Include:
· Antibiotics
· Antacids and Anti-ulcer Medications
· Chemotherapy
· Cortisone and Steroid Medication
· Dentures
· Environmental Pollutants
· Heavy Metal Buildup
· Low pH
· Immune Suppressants
· Inadequate Digestive Enzymes
· Medical Transplants and ICU Treatment
· Oral Contraceptives
· Poor Diet High in Carbohydrates and Refined Sugars
· Stress
· Synthetic Estrogen
· Type One Diabetes
· Weak or Compromised Immune System
Candida Symptoms
Candida thrives in warm, moist, and dark locations. Systemic candida infections or candidiasis cause chronic symptoms that greatly surpass the effects of athlete's foot, oral thrush, and vaginal yeast infections. Yeast and fungi are living organisms that survive through a metabolic process. Carbohydrates and sugars are very important ingredients for feeding and sustaining yeast colonies.
Poor digestion or a diet with low nutritional value can create conditions where Candida thrives. Candida organisms release more than 70 known toxins that accumulate in the joints, spinal fluid, and soft tissue. Among these toxins are ethanol, histamines, mycotoxins, and acetaldehyde that overload the liver, target the hormonal system, and inhibit immune response.
Side effects vary from slow healing time to muscle soreness and flu-like symptoms. Acetaldehyde is a relative of formaldehyde that causes mutation on the cellular level. When combined with toxins that impaired immune response, mutated cells are allowed to regenerate. To boost the strength of the invasive microorganisms, candida releases the potent toxin proteinase. Ethanol produced by the metabolic process causes effects similar to a chronic alcohol hangover.
Candida also releases histamine that causes patients to develop rashes, hives, and allergies to the healthiest foods. In some cases, patients may also be allergic to the candida yeast. Candidiasis can lead to hormonal imbalances and metabolic disorders that mimic many medical conditions. The ability to disguise itself as so many common maladies has caused candidiasis to be an under-recognized and frequently undiagnosed condition. Common symptoms of Candidiasis include:
· ADD and ADHD
· anxiety and depression
· arthritis
· autism
· congestion and sinusitis
· Crohn’s and IBS
· constipation
· craving for alcohol and sugary foods
· difficulty concentrating or brain fog
· chronic fatigue
· flatulence and bloating
· fibromyalgia and muscle pain
· weight gain.

What is Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease?
Learn how you can overcome the symptoms of Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease with a proper exam and diagnosis. Treatment options include a modification of diet and nutritional supplementation.
Non celiac gluten intolerance is a serious problem igniting chronic inflammation in the body. The inflammation is caused by the immune system attacking the gluten. Basically, the immune system produces antibodies to the gluten. It sees the gluten as a bacteria, virus, or unwelcomed addition to the body and goes into a frenzy to eradicate it. Each time the body encounters gluten (which could be several times per day in the standard American diet) the immune system is fired up. This produces chronic inflammation which leads to chronic disease processes and a whole host of symptoms.
Gluten prompts the body to release a substance called zonulin, which regulates the permeability of the intestines. Intestinal-lining cells are pried apart by zonulin. Undigested food particles can enter the blood stream. The immune system reacts by releasing inflammatory substances. This is referred to as "leaky gut syndrome". Since, impermeability is decreased; minerals, essential vitamins, and necessary nutrients are not readily absorbed. This leads to underlying nutritional deficiencies. You may think you are eating and reaping the benefits of eating healthy foods, but the body is not absorbing as much of the nutrients as you think.
Another theory and proposed mechanism of how gluten can affect various organ systems involves peptidase enzyme called DPP4. If there is a failure or insufficiency of DPP4, the body can't efficiently breakdown the proteins in gluten. The immune system can be fooled by molecular mimicry as the undigested protein fragment can be mistaken for a virus. As a result of this, antibodies are aimed at the protein and can cause damage to tissues in an auto-immune reaction.
Symptoms of Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease
The symptoms that non-celiac gluten intolerance can incite can range from joint pain, anxiety, depression, headaches, fatigue, cramping, stomach pain, indigestion, body aches, rashes, acid reflux, thyroid disorders, infertility, mental disorders, etc. As you can see these symptoms are so vast and can be related to multiple diseases.
This is where the problem lies in the medical community recognizing this sensitivity as a dire health problem. Since, medicine is primarily focused on symptom relief; the majority of treatment for these symptoms is focused on pharmacology and not possible nutritional causative factors.
Proper Testing and Treatments
The best way to test for non-celiac gluten intolerance is through Muscle Testing or blood testing for IgG and IgA. In my practice, I have muscle tested many people who have been blood tested for gluten sensitivity and have been told that they do not have gluten intolerance, and they show up as sensitive to gluten through the muscle test. This may not be a life-long intolerance as there are ways to change how the body responds to gluten. One way is through testing for the right digestive enzyme that will allow the gluten to be broken down properly. Usually, my patients need to be off gluten for 6 months if not longer and if they are taking corrective nutritional supplementationtheir bodies can heal and tolerate gluten at some point.
There is also a desensitization process that I use to help the body to not respond to gluten in the same way. When gluten intolerance is identified, a person must refrain from eating even small amounts of gluten. The person will start feeling better in about one week. The body is so resilient and has an innate ability to heal itself, once the stressor has been removed. If a person reintroduces the gluten after being gluten free, without enzymatic support or a desensitization technique, their symptoms will return.
Grains have only been in our diet for about the last 15,000 years or so. There is strong evidence that 15,000 years ago humans subsisted mostly on vegetables and meats. This is not much time in our two million year history. Approximately 30 percent of northern Europeans (those who lived farthest from the origination of dietary grains in Mesopotamia) carry the genes for gluten intolerance. 99 percent of our genetic makeup was already in place before we started consuming grains. Therefore some of us are not able to handle gluten (which is the protein in many grains). Today, up to 90 percent of the protein in wheat is gluten, a 10 fold increase in the past 100 years. The average American consumes 150 pounds of wheat each year.
Gluten Substitutions
Grains that do not contain gluten are rice, quinoa, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, teff, sorghum, wild rice, and corn. You can experiment by completely eliminating gluten from your diet for two weeks and replace it with some of these alternatives.
Other major food intolerances include soy, dairy, and corn, but a person can be sensitive to anything. What one person is sensitive to another person may be fine consuming. The majority of these sensitivities are based on genetic factors. One of the main reasons a person feels so energetic when doing a cleanse is that they may be off their major food sensitivity, such as wheat or dairy.
Please contact me if you, or someone you know suspects they may be suffering from Gluten, or any other type of food Intolerances. A muscle test will provide a quick diagnosis and options for healthy solutions.

Relief from Acid Reflux, GERD, and Heartburn Discomfort
What is Acid Reflux?
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a chronic reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus. The symptoms of acid relux are very treatable without antacids, and over the counter medications.
After eating, do you suffer from stomach pain, nausea, burping, heartburn, difficulty in swallowing, or sore throat? If you experience any of these symptoms, then you may be one of the millions of sufferers of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) also known as acid reflux disease or heartburn.
A burning sensation starting in your stomach travels up the esophagus. This sensation is painfully felt in your chest and leaves a bad taste in your mouth as well as traces of food and stomach acid. This acid also contains bile and pepsin which is an enzyme utilized in the digestion of proteins in the stomach.
Residual acid in your esophagus can cause inflammation, ulceration, and even bleeding of the lining of the throat. Other complications may include swelling and infection of the lungs and fluid in the sinuses and ear canals if you do not seek acid reflux treatment on a continued basis. If heartburn symptoms happen more than three times a week, please contact me for free consultation.
Symptoms and Causes of Acid Reflux
This disease does not target a certain age. Its affects are felt by babies, children, and adults. Symptoms arise if you consume large meals or overeat before bedtime or a nap. When you are lying down, gravity cannot help return the excess acid to your stomach. Therefore, leftover acid remains in your throat which causes damage. These lifestyle habits tend to contribute to discomfort from acid reflux:
· Eating onions, chocolate, peppermint, high-fat or spicy foods, citrus fruits, garlic, and tomato-based products.
· Citrus juices, alcohol, and caffeinated and carbonated drinks.
· Eating before bedtime.
· Being Overweight.
· Eating large portions.
· Smoking.
· Wearing tight-fitting clothing or belts.
· Lying down or bending over, especially after eating.
· Pregnancy
· Bulging of the stomach into the chest cavity, also called hiatal hernia.
When symptoms occur while you are awake, gravity and constant swallowing help flush this acid back to the stomach. Tooth decay can also occur from excess food and acid making it into your mouth and onto your teeth.
The lower esophageal sphincter or LES is a valve between your stomach and esophagus that keeps food and stomach acids from going back up your throat. This valve can become damaged and weakened over time which will result in this condition. Another reason for this occurrence is pressure applied to the abdomen from bending, lifting, obesity, or pregnancy. Smoking and under or overproduction of the acids in your stomach and liver also contribute to this disease.
Symptoms from Too Little Acid in the Stomach
The majority of heart burn sufferers actually have too little acid in the stomach not excess. The food cannot be broken down properly and stays partially digested in the stomach. The inorganic acids may travel up the esophagus causing heartburn.
Many patients need enzymes coupled with betaine hydrochloroide to breakdown their food properly and allow the food to be absorbed so it deosn't lead to inorganic acids causing heartburn. The standard medical treatment is to put patients on proton pump inhibitors which completely turn off all acid in stomach. This leads to poor mineral absorption and poor nutrient absorption. This has been linked to an increase incidence of fractures in people that are on these drugs consistently for more than 3 years.
How To Tell the Difference Between Heartburn and a Heart Attack
Serious heart disease may arise if an acid reflux remedy is not initiated. Reduced or restricted blood and oxygen supply to the heart can cause heart palpitations, irregular rhythm, and heart disease. GERD acid reflux can also be a warning sign of impending heart attack or a hiatal hernia which is a break in the lining above the diaphragm.
This is one of my frequently asked questions from my patients. The symptoms of heart attack and heartburn can be very similar, and even the most experienced heartburn sufferer can have difficulty making the distinction:
· Both Heartburn and a Heart Attack can both start with chest pain and nausea, especially in women.
· Chest pain from heartburn usually feels more like a burning sensation, almost like you swallowed a gas bubble that is on fire.
· Chest pain from a heart attack feels more like a squeezing pressure that can extend to your arm and shoulder.
· If you are not sure, never just assume heartburn and seek immediate medical attention.

Ashley Chiropractic: Overcome Severe Fatigue with aHolistic Healing App...: "Overcome Severe Fatigue with aHolistic Healing Approach. If you feel like you're tried everything and gone to every kind of doctor, but nothing is changing and no one seems to be listening, you may be suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and we may be able to help!
Overcome Severe Fatigue with a
Holistic Healing Approach
"The Standard Process Nutritional Supplements that I take now, have really helped me with my chronic fatigue, energy levels, and my attitude".
What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, also known as CSF, is a disorder that is often associated with extreme fatigue. Even if the individual receives an adequate amount of sleep and rest, they are still experiencing this intense exhaustion. It is not uncommon for people suffering with this disease to have difficulty maintaining their regular schedule for six months or more. The symptoms of this disorder often make it extremely difficult to assess and it was until a few years ago that it was considered to be an actual problem. In fact, many doctors didn’t believe this disorder existed and many believed the patient was a hypochondriac.
You may have been told "Your
tiredness is all in your head,"
but severe fatigue is a real illness.
If you are so tired that you can
not perform your daily activities,
you may be suffering from
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
The symptoms associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can very from one person to another, but the majority of those affected do have the extreme fatigue in common. Others will also find they experience flu-like symptoms of a sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches that have no apparent explanation. The other defined symptoms of the disorder include a noticeable loss of the ability to concentrate or a loss of memory, headaches, pain in the joints that do not cause redness or swelling, and the exhaustion, which does not go away with rest.
· You can feel exhausted at any point of the day.
· You have difficulty getting a good night sleep. You often wake up tired, like you were up for most of the night.
· You feel like you don't have any energy.
· You lack motivation.
· You have difficulty concentrating. It is hard for you to think clearly at work, and it is hard for you to remember and menatally process details.
· You may also feel depressed.
While most people who are diagnosed with the condition have most of the above symptoms, others will also experience abdomen pain, chest pain, bloating, diarrhea, earaches, nausea, night sweats or chills, and an unexplained weight loss or gain. None of these symptoms are included in the actual definition of the disorder, but many physicians often find that they must be included in the Chronic Fatigue treatment plan and many often use Fibromyalgia treatment for these individuals, as well.
Although the majority of people do experience the extreme fatigue, many often have their own unique set of symptoms. What one individual is experiencing can be quite different from another person who was previously evaluated. One person could experience all of the symptoms or just a few. This is why it can be quite difficult to evaluate, and why so many health care providers actually had trouble believing the actual disorder existed.
Unfortunately, the cause of CFS is one of mystery. However, many believe that the disorder is often associated with depression, the immune system is dysfunctional, or even caused by an iron deficiency. Other causes may include:
· Low Blood Sugar
· Low Blood Pressure
· A Change in the Levels or Hormones Produced by the Body
· A Viral Infection
· Adrenal Gland Deficiency
· Candida
Regrettably, there is no one test to determine what may be causing the symptoms you may be experiencing.

Ashley Chiropractic: Nutrition Response Testing, Change Your Life!
Ashley Chiropractic: Nutrition Response Testing, Change Your Life!: "Like a car, your body runs on fuel and requires proper maintenance for it to perform at its highest level. Unlike a car, it is harder to not..."
Nutrition Response Testing, Change Your Life!
Nutrition Response Testing (NRT) is an advanced analysis and personalized health improvement program, using designed clinical nutrition and supplementation, to improve the function of your body's organs with an accurate nutritional process. NRTesting provides a glimpse into the body’s "internal computer" as well as an awareness of the body’s deficiencies. The analysis is done through muscle testing, neurological reflex testing, and acupuncture points.
NRTesting is an offshoot and hybrid of Applied Kinesiology which is a diagnostic tool and health care system used by medical doctors, homeopaths, naturopaths, chiropractors, acupuncturists and many other alternative-care practitioners. The underlying principle is that the body is run by chemical and electrical signals that are sent from (and back to) the brain via the spinal cord and the fluid nervous system.
All of our organs are controlled by the brain and nervous system, and our hundreds of muscles are controlled by and connected to the nervous system. If there’s an interference with electrical messages, the result is a weakened muscle. NRTesting uses many of the same muscle testing principles as Applied Kinesiology, but it is its own separate system of diagnosis. The fundamental principle of NRTesting is that a symptom can be caused by any imbalance in the body. Once the imbalance is treated properly, the symptom will disappear.
A healthy, unafflicted muscle is naturally strong and will resist average resistance. What you probably think of as simple muscle strength is actually a much deeper connection to nerves, organs, glands and all of the systems of the body. Analysis includes:
· Your Reflexes
· Your Autonomic Nervous System
· Your Acupuncture Points
· Your Muscle Response
Nutrition Response Testing Treatment
Nutrition Response Testing Therapy is a study of how the different points on the surface of the body relate to a patient's state of health. NRTesting provides a glimpse into the body's "internal computer", which enables me to help you resolve your health problems, including, but not limited to, the treatment and therapy for following health issues:
· Immune System Challenges
· Fungal Problems
· Parasite Infestation
· Food Allergies
· Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; Severe and Extreme Fatigue.
· Skin Rashes
· Active Scar Repair
· Digestive Problems and Disorders; Severe Abdominal Pain.
· Candida
· Crohn's Disease
· Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) also known as acid reflux disease.
· Bacterial and Viral Issues
· Chemical and Metal Toxicity Problems
The objective of the technique is to detoxify, fortify, and create awareness and balance in a patient's system. The fundamental principle of Nutrition Response Testing is that a symptom can be caused by any imbalance in the body. Once the imbalance is treated properly, the symptom will disappear. NRTesting removes any guesswork on what supplements a patient should be taking, by revealing the client-specific nutritional protocol that will heal the patient on a cellular level.
Proper Nutritional Supplementation
One of the nutritional companies that I work with is Standard Process. They are my first choice because they use only whole food organic plant and animal products. Their patented protomorphogen extracts help regulate cellular metabolism and healing of the organs and cells of the body.
