Nutrition U- What You Should Know About Food, Nutrition, Supplements and More...
Do you feel confident that you know everything you need to know about food, nutrition, supplements, menu planning (my revision of the word diet), exercise, health and wellness?
If you are like most people that I talk to, the answer is a resounding "NO"!
There are so many new pills, new studies, new scary facts about foods that you thought were healthy. Most people have no idea what they should or shouldn't be eating, ignoring, baking, broiling, frying or grilling.
Do you currently take a multivitamin or any type of nutritional supplement? Do you know that it's the right supplement for you? Do you feel a difference when you take your supplement? Do you feel more energy, more fulfillment, more clarity, more focus? Should you feel any different?
These are the questions I get asked every day...
Do you know if your digestive system is working properly? Do you have regular bowel movements? Is your body getting rid of everything it doesn't need and readily using everything it does need?
Are your kidneys filtering efficiently? Are toxins staying in your body and possibly making you sick?
Could your liver be bogged down because of medications, illnesses, or a sluggish system? What happens when your liver isn't functioning properly?
After reading study after study and listening to news brief after newsbrief, hearing conversations between friends and hearing professionals talk on TV, do you know if what they're saying applies to you?
How can you decide what is the best choice for YOU and YOUR FAMILY?
Is there a way to know for sure that what you've done so far is right for you, or find out for the first time what the right thing for you to do is?
We will start out with what Performance U calls:
the 10 Commandments of General Nutrition:
1. Eat Every 3-3 1/2 hours
2. Each meal should contain a lean protein, a fibrous carb (preferably a green vegetable), and a healthy fat
3. Meal Size- you should not feel starving after 3 1/2 hours and you should be able to eat after 3 hours after your previous meal (you should be able to autoregulate when you eat).
4. Emphasize low fructose fruits
5. Consume starches relative to your activity level- when you are actively working out you should eat more starchy carbs, if it is a rest day you should not eat starchy carbs.
6. Never consume a fruit or a starch by itself, always eat these with a protein
7. Drink a lot of water- shoot for a gallon a day
8. always drink a pre-workout shake and a post-workout shake
9. Consume little or no processed products such as alcohol, sweets, dairy products, and breads
10. Plan ONE meal per week to eat off plan (Splurge Meal).
